Did you notice midway through that Principal Hochsprung's letter to parents about new security procedures was WRITTEN Dec. 14, 2012? Parents, did you receive this notice from the principal at any time? When was the $300,000 security system installed? (Just a note for oddity because the raw footage video is also attached to your link.. When the helicopter zooms in on Lanza's car, it looks like one sweatshirt... the farthest right (toward the woods) appears to be a puddle because the white stripe on the pavement is unbroken. It could be an optical illusion because of the shade, yet when I first saw the footage I saw only one black lump of 'something'. Also, in later footage, the positioning of the sweatshirts appears to be moved. I'll post this in the proper place because the moms probably don't know much about the sweatshirts.)

1swtwrld, Thanks for the link. The letter, from the school, dated 12/14/12 ??, states school will use a visual monitoring system to allow entry. Then the article says school had recently spent $300,000 on a new security system including state of the art video cameras and door locks. If the school spent $300,000.00 they got ripped off big time. The visual monitoring system,(doorbell camera) runs only about $3,000. What is with the Dec. 14, 2012 date on the letter? They had the 300k system in place, but want people to think it was just a TV monitor? Or is the magazine report BS?

Honestly couldn't tell you if I got the letter or not. I am not active in the school PTA That letter was going to all parents of SH kids, not just the PTA. "Recently installed" cameras, $30K on the system, surely the parents talked about that--whether to be joyful or gripe about the cost.. Maybe you saw the construction workers? summertime, maybe? ---or could that be what the construction workers milling about the day of the shooting were doing? That lines up, too..... and what better time to (don't get me wrong)...... what better time to pull off something sinister than before (just before) the security system is operative?

I guess what I was trying to say is some parents are active in the school circle and do alot there. So they would know more than I . Honestly I barely read all the stuff that is sent home. I am not active in the school As I spend my time more with our parish. Teaching religious Ed, and youth ministry.

Principal Hochsprung's letter to parents reference to the new security camera system was in fact posted on WTNH Channel 8 New Haven website, and it's still there, on Dec 14, 2012 at 12:06 PM, 2 1/2 hours after the shooting. It does not show however the actual date it was written. It says it went out at the beginning of the school year. www.wtnh.com/dpp/news/fairfield_cty/sandyhook-security-policyUntil I am shown more proof, I side with the mothers that the security system was nothing more than a TV monitor showing who wanted to be buzzed in. To put a $300,000 system into that elementary school would be insane. Bruce

Something I found unusual, not in the article, the clicking to see comments: Options to view additional comments were: Chrono, Reverse Chrono, and SOCIAL RANKING.... WHATT? ..... anyway, it's good to know the system operated at the beginning of the school year.

tuffy, At least the lady principal tried. She had the children's safety in mind. No security system could prevent an attack like that. Even to the very end when she confronted the shooter, and I give her two thumbs up for that! Takes guts.

This principal was one of the most amazing women I have ever known. She died for our kids and she would have done it a million times over for them. They were "her" kids. She had safety in mind every day and everyone felt safe in that school. She did everythjng she could

But they DID spend $30 grand for the security system. To go top-notch and not have recorders hooked up to each camera doesn't make sense. If tapes exist, I want to see the car driving up to the school and the person(s) bursting through the door--that's as much as I want to see. When every street corner and every 7-11 has video cameras ROLLING, we can expect our SCHOOLS to be as secure....
I'm not diminishing Ms. Hochsprung's actions at all, if things happened as the official story says it happened.

All this talk about $30,000 or $300,000 spent on a surveillance system - this is flat out not true. Where did you get this info? Check your sources better. The door monitor system at SHS is old - the same letter was sent out every year to explain to new parents how security worked. This is a 57-year old K-4 school in the country - and in a very Republican part of the state. We question every expense. No way we spent this money recently. Maybe 10 years ago - when it was first installed.
