There has been some discussion of parents already in school parking lot when Shannon Hicks arrived to take photos for the Newtown Bee newspaper. I have been able to establish the following information. Shannon Hicks was in the offices of the Newtown Bee when she heard some chat on a police scanner about a shooting at the SHES. She assumed it was a child custody type of call in the beginning.(Parent shoots principal while trying to regain custody of their child.) Anyway at the point she hears on scanner that a female is shot in foot, she decides to drive to school. This is at 09:43:50AM. The Newtown Bee is located at 5 Church Hill Rd. so she should be on scene at 09:50Am-09:55am. I have learned from a ABC source that the automatic call notification to alert parents of a lockdown/shooting at the schools went out early. It was actually at 09:40am.
So the photos of parents standing outside the school could well in fact be the case as the scene was not yet secure. The actual movement of children from the school to firehouse would have begun at approx 10:01am. Google Earth satellite image data time stamps the Hicks viral photo of the evacuation at 09:56am, plus or minus 3 minutes. Hicks said she took the photo at 10:09am. That depends on how accurate her clock in her camera was. I would be more in favor of the scientific data. Parents would be present by that time! Bruce
