From Newtown Patch 4:30 PM today: The release, subheaded "Stop re-victimizing the victims," cited "over 50 parents and family members directly affected by the worst mass shootings and tragedies in the U.S." The group called for non-profits to turn the funds over to Sandy Hook shooting victims and families, accusing them of a "disturbing pattern" of retaining or redistributing funds intended for victims after tragedies. I don't know why the united way or anyone else would collect funds. It wasn't a natural disaster that cost millions to restore. Other than if they possibly needed help with funeral costs or lost wages, why money for families? The money should be used for either new school or better security for all the schools.

Gosh that is 2 pages full of donation pages....I'm sorry from the looks of the neighborhoods and houses these people lived in, how in the world could they not afford to bury their children?....Where is this money going to?...I'm confused....

From what I heard there are some families of students who attend SHES, not killed or even injured, who are demanding money to pay their rent, household expenses, etc. I'm sorry, but I don't go along with that.
The whole thing has to be transparent, see exactly where the money is going, and the non-profit and fund rasing groups should be looked into throughly before contributing. You know as well as I some groups are using the tragedy to promote their own agendas!

Not speaking for everyone but there are many people who cannot afford health insurance for all the therapy. And some parents cannot return to work yet. Some of the kids are having a really difficult time. Not all but some

Most people are getting help financially with mental health.

Kate, I agree, it should help those "directly impacted" by the shooting. If mental health issues are not covered by insurance, they should be eligible for financial help.
Now does directly impacted mean for instance, local shopkeepers being eligible because of loss of business those weeks? These funds will probably be a big topic of discussion in coming months. Another big cost is just bussing the children to another school in another town. Taxpayers have to pay for a lot of this.

Oh no doubt....and these are the only ones you put on here....They have plenty more...like the run they just had etc. Don't forget Robbie Parker's memorial service/anti-gun speech at the high school in Utah, where he buried his daughter. Who knows how much THAT one brought in? --Who's keeping track of those, the FB page memorials, the 'concocted fund grabbers'? (How many owners of those FB memorial pages have disappeared without a trace, money in hand?) That said, I do feel therapy for THE KIDS should be paid for from those funds. Forget a memorial, for Pete's sakes! Everyone wants to forget that event, but by golly, let's build a memorial so another Adam Lanza will try to outdo him in the next school massacre...... What are people thinking??

To be honest I don't want a huge memorial. What would be nicer is something small for just the community. Something private where kids can play and have fun. That's what we need for the kids

It eventually all comes down to the money. These upper-middle-class families fighting for the $40,000 each has received (so far),,,, It's like the Hormel family holding up the old man's estate because ''Billy got $100million, and I only got $98million." .... We'll see true colors when it's time to dole out the green..
