Almost every child I have seen interviewed has said it sounded like pots and pans, someone kicking at the door, and it was peaceful that surely doesn't sound like 100 rounds of gunshots to me.....So how did some hear it mind you they were very close also, I just can't wrap my head around it...

I have fired an AR15 at an outdoor rifle range and it produces an extremely sharp report. Hard to explain, but much worse say than a 12 guarge shotgun or 357 magnum revolver. No really louder, but sharp, the rifle cartridge uses fast burning powder which may have something to do with it. So much so, unless the shooter was wearing earplugs, his nervous system could not tolerate the 152 rounds that were fired indoors.
As far as sounding like pots and pans, I doubt it. Maybe could be confused with firecrackers by a child. Remember the sound was also being broadcast over a PA system producing overmodulation/distortion.

I can understand how a child would describe it as sounding like pots and pans. That is a loud noise which is probably a familiar sound to them. Its a everyday sound in my house. Completely makes sense to me.

The first thing out of my kindergartner was there was shooting in the school take me home. My children know what guns sound like. My 3rd grader has a 22. And she's a great shot. For children who are not familiar with guns this would be a totally forgein sound. There was no mistake it was gun fire.

Wait I'm confused now that I went back and read this.....This one child specifically said it sounded like someone was kicking at the door???.....and the other girl said it sounded like pots and pans, and the other 2 boys said it was very peaceful??....now how in the world was it peaceful??.....I have heard gun shots and they don't sound like pots and pans especially in a closed enviroment, they would sound louder...and over a loud speaker my gosh that would even be worse....So none of these childrens stories add up to even the same line of the sound they heard.

What about the kid who heard banging and ''cops on the roof"? What cops on the roof?

I finally saw some helicopter footage that showed police on the roof. When I initially saw it I thought they were on the paved school grounds.
