Kate & Mom, thank you for taking the time to answer these questions! As I review the helicopter coverage of the event...I can't shake this disturbing thought. Why wasn't the EMTs allowed to pull up next to the school? As a parent...I would be so upset that no one tried to save my child. I have close friends who are ER nurses and the work hours on trying to revive children. Do you know why this wasn't done? I am dumbfounded that a lawsuit hasn't been filed because of this. thanks, Katherine (Mom of four great kids-three in elementary)

Katherine, not only were they not allowed on the school grounds, they weren't allowed
to enter the school at all!
The only reason for this of course is there were no victims to attend to. The medical
examiner whisked the "bodies" away to Farmington in the middle of the night and no EMT
assistance was asked or wanted.

The victims that were still alive were taken out right away to ambulances via police cars. Not that far. They didn't allow ambulances close to the school because they were still making sure all was safe. By the time they did that all others jn the building were pronounced dead. There was no need as they were all shot multiple times. These are little tiny people shot multiple times. There was no need. ;(

Thank you, for responding. However, I am still confused...there were vehicles littering the street going into sandy hook elementary. I am surprised not one emt was on standby to rush into the school to see, if any of the victims were still alive. Since at that point no one pronounced anyone dead. Again, thank you for your personal insight.

I had just gotten of work in our local ER . There was a triage set up. And all emt's were ready. The building was still being cleared so the were not given acces. As Kate stated the 2 were rushed to police cars then to ambulances. I hate to be traffic but these are first graders shot not just once or twice but multiple times. There was no way any medic could have done anything. The wounds were too extensive. The loss of blood was horrific. There were no pulses. It was a heart breaking discovery.

At Danbury? Does S.Hook have a hospital? 30,000 people it should.

I still have a problem with this. I understand what your saying about multiple gunshot injuries and small bodies, but not having one medic on scene is unheard of. In a 911 call, police and ambulance are both dispatched. They didn't know exactly what they were walking into, how many children could possibly be injured. How did they KNOW there weren't children that could be saved.

What the police found in the classrooms was clearly death. There was one girl still breathing. She was immediately scooped up in an officer's arms and he whispered in her ear the whole way to the ambulance that they loved her. She was gone in minutes. The injured were brought out by police. Police were also trying to find kids who were hiding in the school. They also did not know, when they first walked in, that they were dealing with just one shooter. Until the scene is safe and need is determined, no medical personnel are ever allowed in. Once it was determined that all victims who were alive and injured were out of the school, all that was left were the bodies of the children. It became a crime scene after that. If EMTs are inside, they compromise the scene. They followed protocol. Were you an EMT on the scene?

I agree with the original poster. I would be beyond livid if my child was not tended to no matter how serious the injuries or even if they were pronounced dead on the scene. (BTW I would love to know who pronounced them dead. That should be on their death records, but they are not releasing those and I guess they don't plan to) Anyways, VERY VERY FEW were rushed to the hospital, but all those other children and teachers lay in that school until 1 am. That's completely unacceptable.
Yeah, they had a triage, but no black tarps for the deceased.
